Winter Youth Olympic Games under way in Austria

Innsbruck, Austria is playing host to the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games and the opening ceremonies are just days away. After a highly successful Summer Youth Olympic Games held in 2010 in Singapore, officials are anticipating the winter counterpart to be an exciting and successful event.

The 2012 Youth Olympic Games focus on celebrating youth sport achievement, raising awareness of the Olympic movement, and discovering new cultures. Members of the 51-athlete Canadian squad for 2012 include Alberta Skeleton athletes Carli Brockway and Corey Gillies.

After a rigorous six-race qualification period prior to Christmas, the young Calgary-based duo departed for Austria this past week. Opening ceremonies get underway on January 13, while skeleton races taking place on January 21.
